7 Tips To Boost Your Immunity

7 Tips To Boost Your Immune System

Whether it’s flu season or not, nourishing our immune system year-round is one of the best things you can do for yourself…especially when healing from candida.

Candida suppresses our immune system by robbing our bodies of essential vitamins and minerals our immune system needs to function. It also contributes to an imbalance of gut flora…how is this connected to our immune system? Because 80% of our immune system is located in our gut!

Following a candida diet is a great place to start. We also recommend the CCWS Candida Cleanser to get to the root of candida overgrowth. It’s designed to break down candida’s exoskeletal layer called chitin…and diet alone cannot break this chitin layer!

Let’s dive into some ways you can strengthen your body’s defences any time of the year…

Zinc

Zinc boosts your immune system by keeping all of your immune cells primed and ready for action when needed, while also supporting the production of Natural Killer cells and their healthy activity.

Try these foods high in zinc:

  • oysters
  • pumpkin seeds (also parasite-fighting, try this pumpkin seed pesto recipe)
  • chia seeds
  • cooked spinach
  • cooked asparagus
  • avocado
  • almonds
  • zucchini

Vitamin D3

Most immune cells have vitamin D receptors, and vitamin D interacts with these cells to stimulate their virus-fighting response. It also acts to modulate the reaction of the immune system, preventing the overreaction to pathogens that can lead to inflammatory conditions. Supplementing with vitamin D reduces the risk of respiratory infections like the flu, which is especially helpful in winter when vitamin D deficiencies are most prevalent due to lack of sun exposure.

Sun is the best way for our bodies to get natural Vitamin D, especially in the morning when the rays aren’t too strong (great for detoxing too!)…and for this to happen, we need cholesterol in our skin cells to make vitamin D from sunlight. Cholesterol has been labelled as a villain in the wellness world, but it serves a purpose and is needed for us to heal.

**TIP: Take D3 with K2 – theses two work together harmoniously. They offer your body more benefits when combined. In fact, they work together within the body; vitamin D3 directs the absorption of calcium from your intestines into the blood and Vitamin K2 takes it from there, directing that calcium into your bones.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C has dozens of roles in the body, as an antioxidant, vitamin C can help neutralize free radicals that can occur when your immune response gets triggered. It has been shown to support the specialization and production of T-cells and B-cells, vital components of your immune system’s arsenal.

It also aids in the synthesis of collagen, vital for maintaining the skin; a primary barrier against pathogens. Vitamin C can enhance the absorption of iron, essential for immune cell proliferation and function. Its diverse roles in immune health make it a vital nutrient for maintaining a robust immune response and overall well-being.

Try supplementing with natural food sources like Camu Camu or Acerola.

Foods high in Vitamin C:

Meat Stock

Whether you’re sick or not, homemade chicken meat stock is a great addition to your diet moving into the colder weather. It is packed full of collagen and nutrients that will boost your immune system (and heal your gut) so that you can either recover or prevent getting sick.

All you have to do is put a whole organic chicken with onions and carrots (or any other veggies you’d like) into a stockpot or dutch oven. Fill it up with filtered water and bring it to a boil then let it simmer for 2 – 3 hours…and voila! You have yourself a whole meal!

Water

Water plays a vital role in ensuring that immune cells function properly. Lymphocytes, which are a type of white blood cell that are critical for immune response, require adequate hydration to travel effectively throughout the body and carry out their functions, such as identifying and eliminating pathogens and invaders!

Try adding a pinch of high-quality fine sea salt like Celtic salt or Himalayan salt to your water. This will give you lots of essential minerals that your body needs like magnesium, potassium and calcium that we lose through sweating or when we’re sick.

Rest

Lack of sleep is never good…it affects our whole body in many different ways. As we sleep, the immune system ramps up its activity by producing key immune cells that will help us combat infections.

Rest can also help us with chronic stress as it supports balancing cortisol, a stress hormone that is capable of suppressing our immune system.
